We just returned from gunflint trail. Gunflint Trail is north of Grand Marais Minnesota and located in Cook County. There are many lakes on gunflint trail. We fished Saganaga lake . We caught a few fish within our day. Saganaga lake is in the Boundry waters area. A permit is needed to fish or use a motor on that specific lake. The park only lets a limited amount of motorized boats on the lake. So get a permit early. Saganaga lake is amazing. There are minimum homes on the lake so you get to experience nature at its best. You can see Eagles, Bears, Moose, loons, foxes and many other animals. We did see a moose and a fox. That was one of the biggest highlights of our vacation up north.
http://www.mnlakeplace.com did a lot of exploring and hiking. The forests, water falls, lakes and rivers in Northern Minnesota are beautiful. The leaves are turning now to add to the beauty of the dense forests. The national parks are well maintained and the lakes are very clean and clear.
Gunflint trail is about 20 minutes north of Grand Marias mn, about a 2-hour drive from Duluth mn and 4.5 hour drive from St.Paul and Minneapolis. We highly recommend going up to northern Minnesota. It has so many lakes to choose from the resorts are reasonable. If you go after October the rates are usually lower due to the weather but October is beautiful. The leaves are still changing highlighting the beautiful scenery. Just remember to bring warm clothes. It can get cold at night up in Grand Marais or the gunflint trail area.
